Having inherited a traditional craft, the young entrepreneur brought back to the island the traditional, manual method of harvesting salt from natural holes (pools) dug into the rocks of one of the world's cleanest seas, the Ionian Sea

Salt is fundamental to the development of humanity. It is used for preserving products from agriculture, hunting, and livestock. It enhances the flavor of food and is utilized in various aspects of the chemical industry.

What is specific about salt is that its beneficial and harmful properties for the human body go hand in hand. However, what is characteristic of the product Afalara is that the harmful properties are minimized nearly to the point of elimination at the expense of the beneficial ones

Afalara – also known as the flower of salt. It is collected very carefully by hand from the surface of the sea in the pit before it sinks and crystallizes with the remaining salt. It dries in the sun and is packaged in small containers.

The taste of Afalara salt is unique and unparalleled. It contains a high percentage of moisture because it undergoes no processing. For the same reason, the color of this salt is naturally white, in contrast to other salts whose white color is achieved through manipulation

The microelements contained in Afalara salt are 92 in number, all of which are extremely necessary for the human body. The iodine in the salt is naturally saturated and not artificially added. It is important for our health to use such salt instead of the ordinary salt we are used to. The salt has flakes, like any quality salt.

The color of the salt is harvested in the northwestern part of the island, which is predominantly rocky. This geological specificity allows pure seawater to be collected and dried quickly, leaving the Afalara salt to be harvested in the most natural way.

The Ionian Sea is exceptionally clean, rich in salt and other microelements. Afalara salt is collected only during the summer, every morning, to prevent it from falling and mixing with the remaining sea salt accumulated on the rocks below. Bad weather and wind increase the yield, but rain sets the process back 15-20 days.

Afalara salt naturally also contains Magnesium, Calcium, and Potassium, which are also absent from ordinary table salt.

These differences do not exhaust the distinctions between ordinary table salt and Afalara sea salt. Consuming the flower of salt aids in the hydration of the body and the movement of all fluids within it – the exact opposite effect of that produced by ordinary salt. This leads to the protection of the kidneys, regulation of blood pressure, and other vital functions for the body.

Due to the extremely low yield, the flower of salt from Zakynthos – Afalara Anthos Alatiu is currently offered only to our friends and established clients upon prior request, with a delivery period of 10-20 days.
